This & That

As you can see in the picture, my nephew Will is shocked that his mother is turning 50! Well, actually, I have no idea what he is doing, but the truth is that the lovely lady in the back just hit the big 5-0. Mom, Dad and I all met Nancy before Brad did. She had come out to start a school in Pakistan while Brad was in the States. Nancy is one of those bundles of energy that can inspire any kid to do anything in the classroom. She is joyful, fun and creative - but what I noticed first is that she always knew how to talk to me, at that time, a teenager. By the time Brad came back (to work in my dad's hospital), we had all fallen in love with Nancy and decided she was the one for Brad. The only hitch was that we had to convince Brad and Nancy that we were right. It wasn't too much later when I found myself sitting in a restaurant in Peshawar with Brad and Nancy. That's when it hit me. I'm the third wheel. Yes, it was true. At the ripe age of 16, I was being used as a chaperone in a country in which it was completely out of the question to go on a date in public. And so all this eventually led to their wedding, nineteen years ago yesterday, when I got another sister!
Most of our recent picutres involve Cache-Cache, our new kitten. The amazing thing is that, unlike our last cat, she does not try to tear apart the person who is holding her.

CAUTION: The following picture provides a tragic and disturbing glimpse into the life of an otherwise handsome man procrastinating on getting a haircut because he is trapped in a town with no good barbers . . .

I know - this is hard on all of us.

The advantage to being a girl in a town with no good barbers is that I can just curl the split ends :). Gerald and I were just about ready to head out to a gala to celebrate Gerald's birthday. Too bad we couldn't understand the French comedians that dominated the time. But we did try very hard laugh at the appropriate places.

A birthday meal for Gerald with our friend, Misty, who dropped by and we convinced to stay. The girls made the hats - even one for our kitty who, not surprisingly, did not cooperate for the picture.

Do you celebrate Thanksgiving there? I am thankful to have you as friends and love this blog. I have been out of the net for a week and will spend a lot of time trying to catch up. Never did get that facebook invitation link to work. MUD
