Gerald

My youthful husband looking rather like a teenager in his Meade sweatshirt!

Gerald is now doing most of the graduate coordinator duties. He was told there would be 50 advisees, but he has somehow ended up with close to 90! Needless to say, he hasn’t gotten much done in his office due to the constant stream of students coming by. They love him because he really helps them figure out what they should do and spends time with them. He is also working out a lot of the kinks in the graduate program with the help of his beloved Excel program.

I wondered about the shirt. In my time at KU, I only had one advisor that I even met. He was so wrong that after that first meeting, I took my file and went to enrollment and filled the check blocks until I got it full. There is an old saying, "Unless controlled, work will flow to the competent man untill he is no longer able to function." As much as we enjoy talking to Gerald, I can understand the students wanting to utilize his time. MUD

We're not surprised everyone loves Gerald. He's great! The key to sanity is every once in a while to close the door and pretend no one is home.

Yes - I know - I never asked my advisors for advice (ironic now that I think about it!) But the students are rather babied here. Maybe Gerald can kick them out of the next eventually. I know he is trying to streamline things so that they can figure more out on their own. He hasn't been able to act like he's not home yet, but he does sometimes work in his 'office' - the church - when he really needs to hide!
