The light at the end of the tunnel

Here is Gerald pictured in a cave near Ifrane with the light provided by the guide.
He made it! Gerald survived his first semester of teaching!
New job, new classes, new challenges and new location made for an extremely busy semester. Off to a rough start with materials not arriving in time and the surprise of three days of student advisees dropping by his office, it was hard for him to catch a breath at all until fall break.
As advanced as the university looks, some of it is a facade. One friend here recommended Gerald take a deep breath every day and say, "I am in Africa..." after which the frustrations are not to seem so frustrating!
Gerald was able to get to know many of his students well and had a good rapport with them. Many of them expressed their appreciation for his classes after they moaned about how hard the tests were!
I knew he would do a great job being the patient, kind, funny and helpful that he is. What a guy!
The girls and I are delighted that the pressure is off at least for a bit, and that we get to have him around more!

It does not surprise me that Gerald has more to teach than the students can learn. What a guy.
I have worked almost every day in December as a Para-Sub and will be a regular Sub after the first of the year. The small Christmas pkg went out yesterday so let me know when and if it arrives. We are pretty busy and have lots of plans for Christmas. Hope you all can celebrate together. Dennis

Jerry: are you making up for all those times you didn't go caving in school? Or did you miss it so much you just had to get back into it?
