Dad and Elvis

Yes, that's right. Dad shared a birthday with Elvis. Both loved to sing, but rather a different set of songs. Though Elvis is far more famous, it is Dad who left an eternal mark on the world. I realize the picture doesn't match the title, but since I didn't have any pictures with Dad and Elvis, I had to settle for this one.
To remember Dad yesterday I played the CD, "Sixteen Singing Mennonite Men." Dad practiced with this group but couldn't go with them to South America because he and Mom were headed to Pakistan. The CD reminded me of Dad's strong, wonderful voice and the songs included several of his favorites. I am thankful for the love of singing and choral music he passed on to me. Several years ago, Mom and Dad made a little tape for the "Friesen Five" comprised of many songs they sang to us when we were little. That tape is a treasure now, and I like the girls to hear it to spark their memories of him.
I talked to Mom yesterday and she was doing well. She just got back from Winnipeg where she had been visiting my brother Daniel and family. She went for walks every day in the "balmy" -20 degree weather, did some ice skating, and hopped off a sleigh a few times! She continues to draw strength and hope from the Great Comforter.
